EVEN KEEL 2021 Vintage Release
After many months in development Sam, Brent and the Polperro team are thrilled to share our new look for Even Keel.
Our new design better reflects the quality wine being made for the last decade or so, celebrating the individual strengths of Australia’s wine regions, with small production, elegant & balanced wines grown in regions best suited to specific varieties. Sophistication, balance and depth underpin Even Keel, now appropriately ‘dressed to the nines’.
The highly stylised design gives a nod to the past with classic typography, and a contemporary, strong creative execution, which reflects Sams winemaking approach and vision. The soft ochre foil in deference to our unique Australian regions and soils from which we grow & harvest, respect & nurture.
EVEN KEEL / 2021 Rosé
Region : Mornington Peninsula
Tasting : Lifted citrus orange peel which continues to palate along with flavours of ripe cranberries and pomegranate. The wine is held together with crunchy acidity and mouth watering texture and a driving finish.
Varietal: 100% Tempranillo
Review: 90 Points. Campbell Mattinson, Winefront
“This is a pretty, refreshing rosé with juicy fruit flavour flowing attractively throughout. It’s pale in colour and essentially dry in style, though there’s plenty to hold onto in flavour terms. Pear, nectarine and strawberry flavours combine well before the wine turns dry and textural through the finish. It’s a pretty easy wine to enjoy, in summary”.
EVEN KEEL / 2021 Pinot Gris
Region : Mornington Peninsula
Tasting : On the Nose there is lifted Ginger blossom, spice and waxy pear fruit. In the mouth the wine is beautifully fresh and minerally, with a textural mid palate showing good fruit weight of pears and lime all held together by an energetic back bone.
Review : 90 Points. Campbell Mattinson, Winefront
“This is a finely-crafted Pinot gris with both elegance and flavour on its side. It tastes of pear and grapefruit mostly though there’s a floral, almost honeysuckle-like aspect here too. This feels ultra faithful to a ‘summer fruits’ vibe; at various times I saw lime and fuzzy peach in the wine but mostly it smells and tastes of a bowl of fruit, fresh picked. That’s a pretty good way for a wine to present”.
EVEN KEEL / 2021 Pinot Noir
Region : Mornington Peninsula
Tasting : Bright nose of red sorbet fruits – strawberries and red cherries, and a background of gamey notes. On the palate it’s concentrated with flavours of savoury red fruits, pure and bright, with pretty dried herbs, dusty tannins and great length.
Review: 92 Points. Campbell Mattinson, Winefront
“You can’t but admire the dry spiciness of this wine. It smells and tastes authentic, pure, savoury and attractive, its strawberry-cherry, sweet-sour flavours laid with earth, spice and twig notes galore … it does everything right, particularly in flavour-profile and shape-of-palate terms. It’s drinking a treat already but there’s no real hurry.”
Even Keel’s small production of wines is established through long-term relationships with growers from individually selected vineyards in some of Australia’s best and most distinctive wine growing regions. Even Keel celebrates varieties that are best suited to particular regions both on and outside the Mornington Peninsula.
