2024 Mornington Peninsula Fiano
REGION
Mornington Peninsula
TASTING
The nose leads with florals, sea spray, citrus blossom, stone fruits, apricots, cut hay and grapefruit. Medium bodied on the palate, with great texture, pithy white flesh and juicy grapefruit. Great length and intensity, a smashing drink.
WINEMAKING
The fruit is hand-picked then whole bunch pressed and transferred to old French oakbarrels. It is then allowed to ferment using wild yeast then racked to stainless steel tanksand bottled the following spring.
VINEYARD
Hunts Road is situated in Tuerong, 98 metres above sea level. It’s in sandier, well-drained soils. It’s very open and exposed to all the winds. Even though it’s a lower area and to the north of the Peninsula it’s actually a very cold site. It’s one of the Peninsula’s biggest sites, there’s 66 acres of it. We farm this with two other wineries and share the fruit equally. It’s predominantly Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. But there are a lot of alternative varieties planted: Fiano, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Meunier.
VITICULTURE
Sam works with trusted grower partners across the region, maintaining contact throughout the growing season. At harvest, the fruit is carefully hand-picked and then vinified and matured at the winery on the Mornington Peninsula.
